Lampwork Beads
Handmade in Wanganui
New Zealand
I have made and sold handcrafts for many years, working with fabric, concrete, clay and stained glass. In 1995, while living on Waiheke Island, Auckland I started making jewellery which I sold at the local market.
When I moved to Wanganui I was still making jewellery, but having difficulty finding a variety of glass beads, so I decided to try making them. I bought a book, a torch, some glass and a propane bottle. I hooked up the torch, read the book and with a shaking hand (hoping the insurance cover on the house was adequate), lit the match and made a really ugly bead.
I am totally self-taught and as a result always seem to be trying to work beyond my ability. This is either exciting or frustrating, depending on the outcome - I still produce some beads that end up as pot plant decorations - at least they add some sparkle to the dirt.
